I have returned from the east coast to help back up Danger Scout here at Alameda Point. It seems that he has discovered a lot of information since I was last here at this ghost town of a Navy Base. The lab that Dr. Grumbles has been working out of is the same building responsible for polluting the bay.
PetroPharm Labs is the first place ever to be fined by the EPA. It was fined every year of it's operation, and is solely responsible for making Alameda Point one of the most toxic places in the US. It was thought that PetroPharm Labs shut it's doors forever in the late 70's, but it seems that a lot of activity has been going on again, as production is in full swing.
PetroPharm Labs is involved in several genetic projects that include modifying foods and plants. Some projects are to cross vegetables and fruits with pesticides, so that they naturally repel farming pests. (Read more about Genetically Engineered Foods) Another area works on "pharming" plants that have medicinal value, to genetically increase their use for making medicines.
The radical problem with this research is that the experimental plants release pollen, and other invisible plant stuff into the atmosphere. Their genetically altered pollen reaches a local farm, and mutations occur, possibly destroying crops forever once the genetic code is upset. If these pharmaceutical crops mutate our regular food sources, we could change our fruits and vegetables forever.
PetroPharm Labs produce a whole line of petrochemical pharmaceuticals, and are responsible for many of the "generic" drugs that are sold in pharmacies all over the country and world. A company this large and powerful is a tough adversary to go up against, and people need to know what is happening in order to voice their oppinion.
